Chapter Nine

Amanda looked sinfully seductive and innocent in a flowing light sundress that was mostly pink hearts with black borders. It completely covered her chest with a sweetheart neckline that hugged her most salient assets and showed just the smallest tease of her endless cleavage. It lightly clung around her waspishly thin waist, and then hung loosely over her hips in pleats. It stopped at mid-thigh, leaving plenty of creamy skinned and toned leg on display. She also had a pair of brown open-toed sandals. It was casual and just right for a romantic dinner in, but also incredibly sexy. Added to the ethereal beauty of her face, shiny black hair falling in ringlets down her body, and her incredibly bright and alluring green eyes she was truly stunning.

She smiled a little nervously and alluringly when I popped back into the kitchen after delivering Serina to Amber.

“You look great.”

I smiled back, “Isn’t that my line? Though great doesn’t do you justice. Maybe dazzlingly magnificent comes close, with a dash of ethereally beautiful thrown in.”

She smiled demurely, “Thanks.”

I said, “I suppose you hear that kind of thing a lot?”

She nodded and bit her lip, “It can get to be a bit much from strangers who just want one thing and are trying to pick me up, but I never tire of compliments from the people I care about, and who also see me as more. See the woman inside, you know? That makes it not empty. Sorry, sit, wine?”

I grinned, “I’m at dinner with a goddess, and she’s nervous?”

She giggled, “Maybe a little. You’re confident, and a little intimidating at times. I also don’t think you care about me as much as I care about you right now, but we can work on that.”

I tilted my head as I sat down, and then paused for a moment. The food smelled amazing, and I knew she’d cooked it herself. She’d made New York strips, mashed potatoes that had cheese, bacon, butter, and sour cream whipped into it, and corn on the cob. There was also a small basket covered with a linen napkin, and I could scent it was fresh rolls.

“Dinner looks and smells amazing. We can work on that, but what makes you think you care more?”

She bit her lip, “Our history. You hated me for almost two years on Serina’s behalf, and it took time for you to get past it. I kind of fell for you, Bob,” her voice trembled, telling me she’d truly meant that, “Through Lady Lightning’s eyes at first. You kept the love of my life safe, and despite not even knowing about us, and even through the flirting and sexual tension, you always treated her like a lady and refused to risk your lives and secrets. It was only due to coincidence that it all came out.”

I nodded, that was a fair assessment.

She shrugged, “I didn’t truly love you of course, I couldn’t. That’s not possible without getting to know someone. But, I did admire you through her eyes, and had more than a little bit of an infatuation with you.
